The approach

I'm a commercial property broker and a director of Brightwave Commercial Property, based in Cape Town. For more than seven years I've specialised in the Cape Town CBD, Gardens, Foreshore and Atlantic Seaboard, working across office, retail and commercial property sales and leasing.

Property has always been much more than a job to me. I genuinely love what I do. I am fascinated by property, developments, the way cities evolve and, most importantly, the people and businesses behind every deal.

For me, being a good broker isn't about simply filling a vacancy. It's about understanding what a client actually needs and finding a property that works for them.

There's something incredibly rewarding about finding a tenant a space they're genuinely excited about while achieving the right result for the landlord at the same time. When both sides walk away happy, that's what makes this such a feel-good industry for me.

A space can look perfect on paper, but if it doesn't work for the business and the people who use it every day, it isn't the right space.

My Journey in Commercial Property

My journey into commercial property started after completing my Bachelor of Social Science at the University of Cape Town, a triple major in Industrial Sociology, Politics and History. I joined ANVIL Property Smith and spent the next seven years building my career as a commercial property broker.

From the beginning, I wanted to know my market inside out. I focused heavily on the Cape Town CBD, Gardens, Foreshore and Atlantic Seaboard and, over time, built strong relationships with landlords, tenants, property owners, developers and businesses throughout these areas.

I was fortunate to become ANVIL's top-performing broker for four consecutive years. During my time there, I was also awarded Redefine Properties Broker of the Year for three consecutive years and was recognised in Redefine's Top 24 brokers nationally for another year. I was additionally recognised as the V&A Waterfront's top broker for four years.

I'm extremely proud of those achievements, but the biggest thing I took from my time at ANVIL was experience. Seven years of negotiating deals, solving problems, understanding different businesses and working through almost every type of commercial property requirement taught me an enormous amount.

It also made me realise how much I enjoy helping other brokers improve. I've always loved sharing what I've learnt, training brokers and seeing someone become better and more confident at what they do. Commercial property has a steep learning curve, and having the right people around you can make a massive difference.

Success means more when the people around you are growing too.

Why Brightwave

Becoming a director of Brightwave Commercial Property was the natural next chapter for me. I wanted to take everything I had learnt over the previous seven years and help build a brokerage that reflects how I believe commercial property should be done.

At Brightwave, we believe strongly in honesty, transparency, hard work and passion. We want to produce the best possible results for our clients while operating at an extremely high level of efficiency.

That means knowing our properties properly. It means responding quickly. It means giving landlords honest feedback, even when it isn't necessarily what they want to hear. It means understanding what a tenant actually needs rather than simply sending them every available property. And it means doing the small things consistently well.

We also believe strongly in working as a team. I want Brightwave to be a place where brokers help one another, share knowledge and grow together. I love training and developing brokers because the stronger each individual becomes, the stronger the entire business becomes.

The ambition is simple: to keep growing from strength to strength while never losing the work ethic and personal relationships that got us here.

Honesty, transparency, hard work and passion will always outperform shortcuts.

What I Believe Makes a Great Broker

Market knowledge is incredibly important, but knowing what's available is only the beginning.

A great commercial property broker should understand their market in detail: rental levels, vacancy, demand, parking, lease structures, fit-out costs, incentives, developments, sales values and where the market is heading. But just as importantly, they need to understand people.

Every requirement is different. A growing business looking for its next office has completely different priorities from an established company consolidating its operations. A landlord repositioning a building needs different advice from an investor looking to purchase. My job is to understand those differences and give practical, straightforward advice.

I've always been extremely interested in property and development, so I naturally spend a lot of time following what is being built, what is being planned, how different parts of Cape Town are changing and what those changes mean for landlords, tenants and investors. That curiosity is a big part of why I still enjoy the industry as much as I do.

What Drives Me

After more than seven years in commercial property, I still get excited about putting a deal together. There is a genuine satisfaction in walking into a property with a client and realising you've found exactly what they've been looking for. There's an equally good feeling in helping a landlord secure the right tenant or achieve a great result on a property.

Those relationships matter to me. Commercial property decisions can have a major impact on a business, its employees and its future. I never want a client to feel like they are simply another transaction. I want them to know they are getting honest advice from someone who understands the market and genuinely wants the best outcome for them.

That same philosophy is what I want us to continue building at Brightwave. We're ambitious. We want to grow, improve and produce exceptional results. But we want to do it the right way: with integrity, transparency, efficiency and an enormous amount of hard work.

I'm incredibly excited about what we're building and where Brightwave is going. For me, this is only the beginning.
